Alchemy

By Jodie Bellamy

For Jodie, the inspiration for “Alchemy” was the world around her, inspiring her to see hair as an organic material to simulate the incredible elements that surround us.
The collection is heavily influenced by light and the impact that this can play on hair, whether subtly changing colours or casting shadows and illumination to highlight and transform certain areas and accents. The landscape of the desert and the incomparable golden desert light were particular sources of inspiration, combined with gold in all it’s forms as seen in the decadent Dolce and Gabbana A/W 13 collection.
Desert light is an almost mythical entity that can’t be truly captured in words. It’s the light at early morning and late afternoon, the soft, warm light when the sky is lit up in seemingly impossible combinations of colours. The explosions of vibrant colour provided by the native desert flowers in the stark landscape are then in shocking contrast to the vista.

come as you are

by the little salon co. creative team

The words are iconic. They say I’m With The Band. They say the 90’s are back in all their ironic anti-fashion statement glory. Come as you are. With Hedi Slimane’s ‘California Grunge’ and Ricardo Tisci’s collection for Givenchy, Dries Van Noten and 3.1 Phillip Lim, the ultimate exercise in hi-low dressing has been reinvigorated. It’s the age of apathy, reflected in heavy doses of plaid, denim, graphic t-shirts mixed with high end labels, a sheer take on layers and refined accents.

The hair is part 90’s grunge, but with some stronger punk inspired aspects. The line between the two is becoming increasing blurred and combined they continue to inspire a new generation. Whilst grunge is largely undone, relaxed and natural, the punk elements are more about making a statement, an anti-fashion statement that ironically has become one within itself. This collection was created to portray 90’s grunge with a modern feel, shooting in black and white against a backdrop of gig posters from the era to add an extra sense of nostalgia to the images.

Couture punk

by the little salon co. CREATIVE team

Punk has been a key influencer on fashion and style, from inception in the 70ʼs, continuing through until now, and certainly the years to come.

“Couture Punk” displays a sense of the expected rawness, contrasted with soft silhouettes representing a more modern and feminine approach. It is the colour which is hero- it provides light and shade to define movement and draw the eye to the fall and shape of the style. The colours are vibrant, a kaleidoscope of shades which meld together seamlessly.

raw spectrum

by jodie bellamy

The vision for this collection was to be able to show movement through colour, to explore really organic textures and look to marry elements of the fabrics used in the styling to both contrast and compliment the shape and form of the hair. The styling is kept quite raw and unrefined. The colour is able to breathe through the structure, free from contrive or over engineering.

The concept behind each female in frame began with an iconic character, a modern take on icons of yesterday. The juxtaposition of the nostalgic backdrop and the modern editorial poise aims to illustrate the evolution of hair fashion as an art form that continually looks to re-invent cultural moments in time.
